Why Security Matters on the Airport Route
Most visitors reach their hotel without any trouble. But the N2 between the airport and the city has well-documented crime hotspots, and the authorities treat it seriously:
- In October 2025 the City of Cape Town deployed 44 additional Metro Police officers to patrol the N2, with a focus on the airport approach.
- In December 2025 the City announced plans for a security wall along the N2 near the airport, at an estimated cost of R180 million.
- Cape Town Tourism advises visitors to stay alert at several N2 off-ramps near the airport and to avoid stopping on the highway.
